Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus (DM), “transparent” or “fountain” and “sweet” as the greek “diabaínein” comes from the Latin word meaning. Diabetes, especially post-prandial blood sugar (hyperglycemia) is a disease characterized by persistent and different.
Similar to the symptoms of advanced diabetes and complications of all kinds. Dehydration can lead to hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis. Long-term complications of heart disease (some risk), chronic renal failure (major cause of dialysis), retinal damage can lead to impotence, amputations and damage, blindness and nerve can lead to gangrene with risk included. More serious complications are more common in low levels of blood sugar

Cause

To understand diabetes, it is important to first understand the normal metabolism of food. Several things happen when food is digested:

  1. Sugar called glucose, or blood. Glokosa is the main source of fuel for the body.
  2. Pancreas to produce insulin. The role of insulin, glucose from the circulation of the muscle cells, fat and liver, chicken where transport is used as fuel.

Diabetics have high blood sugar. This is because the pancreas produces no insulin or the cells of muscles, fat and liver do not respond normally to insulin. Or both.

In general, consumption of glucose stored in the liver. It is part of glycogen. If the body needs a liver disease, and the posterior process glucose. Normal people, no matter how sugar intake does not affect the organs.

But not so for diabetics. When urine, water often enough and sweet. This is due to the amount of sugar in the blood. Sugar has been cleaned and collected in the bladder through the kidneys.

Which identified three types of diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes,  is usually diagnosed in childhood. The patient’s body produces enough insulin or produces no insulin at all, in order to survive, patients must receive insulin injections every day. Without the installation of every day in emergency situations can happen.

Type 2 diabetes are more likely than type 1 and reached 90% or more of all diabetes. It usually occurs in adulthood. In type 2, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to maintain normal levels of blood sugar because the body does not respond well to that insulin. In general people do not understand, type 2 diabetes, although the situation was very serious. Type 2 diabetes generally known in the world  and the number is growing due to unhealthy lifestyles, overweight and lazy to exercise.

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar condition that occurs during pregnancy, occurs in people without diabetes. I general back to normal after pregnancy.

Diabetes is the fourth in the order of a human killer. International Diabetes Federation Congress in 2003 indicated that about 194 million people worldwide suffer from this disease.
